The Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival will screen over 100 films from 20 countries during this year’s edition, which runs from September 24 to 30.

Festival organizers told us this year’s films were picked from over 400 submissions.

“This year’s programme embraces the lived complexity of the Caribbean while rejecting external gazes,” Ivonne Cotorruelo, senior film programmer at TTFF, said in a statement. “Our goal is to amplify voices that speak from within the region, while also creating space for global connections.”

Titles set to screen include Colossal, a Dominican Republic film directed by Nayibe Tavares-Abel, which premiered at Forum Berlinale earlier this year. That film will screen in the festival’s documentary section and follows a young filmmaker who investigates her grandfather’s work on the 1990 Dominican elections, when she uncovers a web of secrets that still ensnares her family.
