TTFF/26 opening night gala + screening: DANM

On the darkest night of the year, Divali, Crystal, a grieving Trinidadian mother, returns to a former plantation – now a museum – to uncover the truth behind her late mother’s research into their family history. But Crystal’s search for answers quickly spirals into a terrifying fight for survival. Trapped inside the estate after nightfall with her estranged family and one-time friend, she is haunted by a sinister presence that preys upon her deepest wounds. As the lines between history, memory, and myth begin to blur, she discovers that some ancestral legacies refuse to stay buried.  

Inspired by Trinidad and Tobago’s folklore and history, DANM reimagines the legend of La Diablesse as a chilling psychological horror about motherhood, identity, and inherited trauma. Written, directed, produced, and led by Caribbean women, the film blends supernatural suspense with cultural history to tell a haunting story about the enduring power of the past – and the price of the secrets we inherit.
