Mathieu Wijdeven explores the symbiotic relationship between people and objects through abstract sculptures, prompting reflections on personal and existential themes. His work has been featured in various exhibitions and performances, investigating the connection between humans and constructions. In the 2021-2022 season, Wijdeven premiered his solo show “Het waarom beantwoord,” inspired by his great-grandfather G.G.T. Rustwijk, a poet and artist from Suriname. The play, addressing post-slavery Suriname, received acclaim, being selected for The Theater Festival, nominated for the BNG Bank Theater Prize, and winning the Toneelschrijfprijs (Playwriting Prize) in 2022.
