Anya Aching is a Trinidadian student at the University of the West Indies (UWI) pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Film Production. She considers herself a freelance artist as she dabbles in many artistic mediums such as photography, ceramics, fine art, live streaming, music and videography. She has hopes of specializing in video editing, cinematography, rigging, producing and fine art. Anya is currently one of the photographers at The Red Cross Society and has freelanced for Synergy, live streaming at Antigua Carnival, Miami Carnival and, panorama, has hopes to shoot for Tribe carnival 2024. Anya also has great interest in shooting behind the scenes content. Anya has always been interested in filmmaking from a young age being introduced to the craft by her father. His interest in movies, behind the scenes and photography peaked her interest in the art form. Anya has many hobbies and interests that have also influenced the subjects that she captures such as hiking, bike riding, skating, music, . Her father played a large role in her development as an artist, alongside her supportive mother and friends as she tried to find her main medium. Anya studied at Bishop Anstey High School Port of Spain where she did humanities, focusing on geography, art and photography up until form 6, receiving all distinctions at CAPE, placing 7th in art and design unit 1 in 2020 and placing 8th in visual arts in 2019. Having access to her fathers camera, it led her to become a freelance photographer after high-school where she then branched into editing and video work and is now streamlining into film production. Her favorite genre is action and fantasy with a newfound appreciation for documentary, as these genres hold her short attention span. Some of her favorite directors include Steven Spielberg, Wes Anderson, Peter Jackson and George Lucas . Some of her favorite films include, The Hobbit Trilogy, Transformers, The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Life Aquatic. Anya hopes to sharpen her filmmaking skills at UWI, make lifelong friends and future co-workers.
