Karla Claudio (she/they) is a filmmaker, visual artist and educator born and based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. They have a BFA in Film and New Genres from the San Francisco Art Institute. They are currently working as a creative and local producer for MATININÓ, a feature length hybrid documentary directed by Gabriela Arp and supported by Topic, Sundance Film Institute, Bay Area Video Coalition, Studio IX, Doc Society and the General Film Office of the Dominican Republic. Their short documentary THE NEW INDIGO WAVE has been presented at the 2025 Isla Verde Festival de Cine y Medioambiente del Caribe in Cuba and at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival. They produce and direct experimental documentaries on ethnobotany, craft, mythology and land based practices in support of material and food sovereignty. They were selected to participate in the 2023 Sundance Producers Intensive, as a Caribbean Film Academy Fellow for the Third Horizon Film Festival 2024, as a 2025 Sundance Latine Fellow and as an Artist Resident at the Vila Sul-Goethe Institut 2025 Residency at Salvador de Bahía, Brazil.
