Faisal Lutchmedial is a writer and director whose work has explored the themes of identity, the immigrant experience, and loss. His feature screenplay ‘Through the Eyes of an Ibis’ recently won the Jim Burt Screenwriting Prize at the 2025 Writers Guild of Canada Awards. In the spring of 2025 Faisal joined the writing team for the 19th season of ‘Murdoch Mysteries’ (CBC) and has previously written on series like ‘Endlings’ (CBC / Hulu) and ‘Ransom’ (CBS / Global). As a director his latest film ‘The Seas Between Us’ had its European premiere at the UK Asian Film Festival and won the Tongues on Fire Flame Award for Best Short. One of his many other shorts ‘Useless Things’ (2009) won the Writers Guild of Canada English Script Prize at the Festival Nouveau Cinema Montreal. Faisal is an alum of the CFC / Netflix Accelerator, the TIFF Writers Studio, the WarnerMedia Access x Canadian Academy Writers Program, and a winner of the WGC Bell Media Diverse Screenwriters Program.
