Winners of 50-second film competition announced

As part of Side by Side, the ttff’s programme of events in celebration of 50 years of Independence, a 50-second film competition was held. The competition—which was launched on 01 July and closed to entries on 01 August—was open to all residents of Trinidad and Tobago, and invited contestants to make a 50-second film on the theme of independence. Five winning films have been selected. These films, and their directors, are:

Kevin Cummings Point of Origin
Miquel Galofré Time to Work It Out
M Jay Gonzalez Golden
Garland Holder Calypso Boys Independence
Kerri Rechier Culture

The films are screening at the exhibition on T&T film currently taking place at the Academy for the Performing Arts in Port of Spain, and will also be in rotation on Flow. The five winners will all receive cable television and Internet service packages from Flow, and out of these films one grand-prizewinning film will be chosen. This film will be announced at the ttff/12 awards ceremony on 30 September, and the winning filmmaker will receive an additional cash prize of TT$5,000.
