The Last Tree

Femi is a British boy of Nigerian heritage who, after a happy childhood in rural Lincolnshire, moves to inner London to live with his mum. Struggling with the unfamiliar culture and values of his new environment, teenage Femi has to figure out which path to adulthood he wants to take in this tender coming-of-age story.

A graduate of The National Film and Television School in the UK, Shola Amoo’s debut feature was a multimedia film called “A Moving Image”. It had its world premiere at the LA Film Festival 2016 in competition for the World Fiction prize and received The Special Recognition Award at The Blackstar Film Festival in Philadelphia. It had its European Premiere at The BFI London Film Festival and was released theatrically in the UK in April 2017 through Verve Pictures. Shola was commissioned by The British Council to direct a reinterpretation of Othello, called “Dear Mr. Shakespeare”, which was selected in competition for The Sundance Film Festival 2017 and featured on BBC iPlayer.
