The limitations we have all experienced over the course of 2020 and 2021 added another layer to what it means to be confined, not only by shorelines and external expectations, but to the very narrow scope of our homes, minds and physical beings. ‘Plexus’ draws on intricately branching internal networks of vessels or nerves that connect to keep us operative and aligned.

Katherine Kennedy

Katherine Kennedy is a Barbadian cultural practitioner. She graduated with a BA in Creative Arts from Lancaster University, UK, and has exhibited locally, regionally and internationally. She currently works for the Fresh Milk Art Platform in Barbados as the communications and operations manager. Katherine’s visual practice is heavily tied to a sense of place, using interplay between organic and inorganic materials and imagery to interrogate the spectrum of belonging and displacement in different environments or cultural contexts. She has undertaken projects and residencies at the Insituto Buena Bista, Curaçao; The Vermont Studio Center, USA; Casa Tomada, Brazil; Akademie Schloss Solitude, Germany; and Punch Creative Arena, Barbados. Her written work has been published with platforms such as Sugarcane Magazine and in Robert & Christopher Publishers’ A-Z of Caribbean Art. Her curatorial credits include the exhibition ‘Social Geometry: Expanded Drawing Practices by Barbadian Artists’ at the Queen’s Park Gallery, Barbados, and in 2021 she was selected as a fellow in the CCCADI Afro-Caribbean Art Curatorial Fellowship.
