Panama Canal Stories

The history of the Panama Canal and its impact is depicted in five linked short films, each one dealing with a different period in the canal’s existence. Beginning with the story of a young Jamaican man and woman who fall in love in 1913 while working on the construction of the canal, Panama Canal Stories tells tales of everyday folk whose lives are affected by one of the greatest engineering feats in the world.

Carolina Borrero, Pinky Mon, Luis Franco, Abner Benaim, Pituka Ortega Heilbron

Carolina Borrero graduated as a film director from Universidad del Cine de Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Pinky Mon studied at The School of Social Communication at the University of Panama.
He also studied photography at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Mexico..

Luis Franco Brantley studied film directing and editing at the International School of Cinema and Television in Cuba. He also studied cinematography at IORT in Spain.

Abner Benaim studied International Relations at the University of Pennsylvania and filmmaking at Cámera Obscura, Tel-Aviv. He directed the documentary Invasion (2014), which was Panama’s entry for the Academy Awards 2015.

Pituka Ortega Heilbron currently works as the Director of the Panama International Film Festival. She is both a director and a producer of Panama Canal Stories
