Mafifa

Filmmaker Daniela Muñoz Barroso, who is almost completely deaf, takes a road trip in Cuba to learn more about a remarkable musician who died four decades ago, Mafifa. Barroso’s quest leads her on the trail of this enigmatic woman, and also makes her question her own head and heart.

Documentary filmmaker, producer, and cinematographer, Daniela Muñoz Barroso is a cinematography graduate of Cuba’s Universidad de las Artes. She co-founded Havana-based indie production company Estudio ST. She has produced and/ or directed several short films. Her documentary “¿Qué remedio? La Parranda” (2018), premiered at Havana Film Festival. ‘Mafifa’, her debut feature-length documentary, premiered at IDFA in 2021.
