Legends of Ska: Cool And Copasetic

Before reggae conquered the world, Jamaica gave us ska. This exciting and uplifting documentary tells the story of ska music in the words of the musicians themselves, from the rhythm-and-blues-influenced sound-system dances in Kingston in the 1950s to the classic ska period of the 1960s to the coming of reggae. The film is punctuated by performances from the 2002 “Legends of Ska” concert, and features interviews with Frederick “Toots” Hibbert, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Jimmy Cliff, Keith Richards and others.

The film was 12 years in the making, and Brad dedicates its screenings at the ttff/14 to the great Trinidad and Tobago balladeer Kenrick Patrick. Known worldwide as Lord Creator, he travelled to Jamaica in the early 1960s and became a ska sensation. He lives today in the countryside of Western Jamaica and sends everyone in T&T his very best.
