K.I.N.G

In the aftermath of Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria, a troubled boy is sent to Connecticut from the Virgin Islands to temporarily stay with his paternal aunt. In hopes of seeing his deadbeat father after broken promises, he ventures out into an unfamiliar city to find him.

A first generation American from a Caribbean background, Rashad Frett was taught from a young age to work hard for his goals. He was always fascinated in the arts but started pursuing it seriously after joining the U.S. Army. Experiencing 9/11 first hand when his Army unit was sent to NYC to help with rescue/ evacuation, Frett wanted to make a positive impact on society. Telling stories through the power of the media became his passion. Frett furthered his education and honed his filmmaking skills which got him accepted into the NYU Tisch Graduate Film program.He’s an MFA Candidate with a Writer/Director concentration at NYU Tisch and is a recipient of the 2018 BAFTA – HBO scholarship, the Martin Scorsese Young Filmmakers scholarship, a 2019 BET Blackhouse Foundation Fellowship at Sundance, a King Wasserman Award Winner at 2019 NYU’s First Run Film Festival, Winner of the 2018 DGA Student Film Award in the Eastern Region African American category, Best Student Film at 2019 Bronzelens Film Festival, 2019’s national winner for Gentleman Jack’s Real to Reel film competition with Omari Hardwick, and a 2019/20 recipient of the Spike Lee Production Fellowship. Additionally, Frett is a Cinematographer with work that has screened in Prestigious festivals including SXSW, LA Film Festival, San Francisco International Film Festival, American Black Film Festival, Aspen Film Festival, and Berlinale.
