Guavas for the Road

Back in the 1960s, Pierrette left Martinique to seek a new life in Paris. She participated in the making of a TV documentary about the city’s community of Caribbean residents – a film she never saw. Now an elderly woman with Alzheimer’s, Pierrette returns to her homeland, with her adult son, for the last time.

Jil Servant

From Martinique and Djibouti, Jil Servant has been making documentary films for over 15 years. His work mixes identity and societal issues, historical research, and cultural practices. In 2002, he directed “A strange arrival” bought by Forum des Images (Paris), in 2004 “Seasickness”, selected at Vues d’Afrique (Montreal) and FIFIG (Groix), in 2005, “The pride of being a Negro woman”, selected at Fémi (Guadeloupe), in 2006, “Nation, place des Antilles”, in 2009, “Chinese immigration to West Indies-Guyana”, in 2014, “Eda’s Choice”. All these films have been broadcast on RFO, ATV, TV5, Trace TV or KTO.“Guavas for the Road”, completed in 2017, is his latest documentary project.
