Mariette Monpierre

Mariette Monpierre was born in Guadeloupe, but grew up in Paris, where she became fascinated with film. With a BA in television and media from l’Université de Paris-Sorbonne and a master’s degree in American Studies from Smith College in Massachusetts, her portfolio includes advertising, podcasts, music videos, documentaries and narrative films. Her feature film Elza (Le Bonheur d’Elza) was the New York Times Critics’ Pick and won several awards, including Best First Time Feature Director at the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles; the Paul Robeson Award for Best Film of the Diaspora at FESPACO 2013; and Best Narrative Feature at the Roxbury Film Festival and the Greater Cleveland Urban Film Festival.
