City on the Hill

City on the Hill is a look at the history of the communities erected on the hillside slopes of Laventille. The film examines the evolution of the chequered relationship between the landscape and its inhabitants, as well as selected aspects of Laventille’s architecture.

Patricia Mohammed is Professor of Gender and Cultural Studies and Head of the Institute for Gender and Development Studies at the University of the West Indies. She is the director of the short films Coolie Pink and Green (ttff/09) and Seventeen Colours and a Sitar (ttff/10; co-directed by Michael Mooleedhar), among others. City on the Hill is her most recent film.

Michael Mooleedhar is a graduate of the Film Programme at the University of the West Indies. His short documentary films are Queens of Curepe (ttff/08) and Seventeen Colours and a Sitar (ttff/10; co-directed by Patricia Mohammed). He is also the director of the short fiction film The Cool Boys (ttff/12). City on the Hill is is most recent film.
