Canto Errante (Wandering Song)

A little girl narrates the myth of original sin: A tear in the garden of Eden. On the other side of that crack, a cold bare bedroom. On the faded wall, a little piece of lost paradise.

Génesis Valenzuela

Génesis Valenzuela was born in 1988 in the Dominican Republic. She studied Dramatic Arts at the National School of Fine Arts. In that same school she took the preparatory course in sculpture. In 2014 she graduated in Advertising, but disenchanted with the profession, in 2017 she enrolled in the Altos de Chavón Film School to pursue directing. There she made the animated short film “Industrializado,” exhibited in the Animation section of the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema in Havana in 2018, and in the Animazine section of the Malaga Film Festival in 2019. Her thesis short film, called “Desideria,” a docu-essay, premiered at the Internacional film festival Doc Buenos Aires, and in the Ibero-American Short Films showcase at the Quito International Film Festival. In 2020, she completed a Master’s degree in Experimental Film at the Elías Querejeta School in San Sebastian, Spain. There she finished the script of “Monte y Culebra”, in consultation with screenwriter Michel Gaztambide. With this script, still in the development phase, she won first place in the National Competition of the General Directorate of Cinema of the Dominican Republic (FONPROCINE). She is currently developing a new film, entitled “Three Bullets,” within the framework of the Matadero artistic residency in Madrid, which she began in January 2021.
