SUMMARY:Crossroads: Bam Bam The Sister Nancy Story
DESCRIPTION:The hit reggae song “Bam Bam” is considered an anthem of the genre and one of the most sampled reggae vocals of all time. The woman behind the voice\, Jamaican dancehall legend Sister Nancy\, was deceived for decades and denied the royalties that were rightfully hers. Despite the challenges in her path\, she persevered and is an in-demand artist today\, touring the world and spreading joy through her music to sold-out crowds. In Bam Bam: The Sister Nancy Story\, award-winning filmmaker Alison Duke (Paid in Full\, Black Community Mixtapes) mixes dynamic tour performances\, insightful interviews with industry figures like Janelle Monáe\, Young Guru\, and Pete Rock\, along with archival footage of the early dancehall scene\, to create a comprehensive portrait of Sister Nancy’s enduring prominence in reggae and hip hop. Her music transcends boundaries\, resonating with diverse audiences worldwide\, from reggae and hip-hop enthusiasts to gamers and music lovers. Entertaining and empowering\, Sister Nancy’s story proves that great music overcomes obstacles and that staying true to oneself is the key to success – both in the music industry and in life. \n🎟️Tickets available here

SUMMARY:Crossroads: Possible Landscapes
DESCRIPTION:‘Possible Landscapes’ is a poignant exploration of intergenerational experiences of Caribbean environments shot over two seasons in Trinidad and Tobago. Across sugarcane fields\, steep hillsides\, on fishing boats and through dying coral reefs\, the film presents intimate portraits of people in their daily lives and examines the impacts of colonial legacies\, post-independence aspirations\, and the evolving forces of\nextractivism. A collaboration between a documentary filmmaker\, Kannan Arunasalam and two professors\, Tao DuFour (Architecture) a spatial theorist and Natalie Melas (Comparative Literature) a postcolonial comparatist\, ‘Possible Landscapes’ is the outcome of the research project\, “Possible Landscapes: Documenting Environmental Experience in Trinidad and Tobago\,” which investigated methods of field research and representation\, drawing on the visual and narrative resources of documentary film to foreground lived experience of landscapes and environments. \n🎟️ Tickets available here

SUMMARY:Crossroads: Caribbean Shorts for Families
DESCRIPTION:Talisman the goat\nThis is the story of Talisman\, a very unusual goat\, who leaves his home on Goat Island to go in search of fresh water. He traverses extraordinary landscapes to finally arrive at Fresh Water Cave. There he encounters Alcos. But who is Alcos? \nThe Hip Hops\nA story of disability and inclusion from the point of view of a child\, based on the filmmaker’s own life. \nLittle Moko\nDue to the global pandemic\, Trinidad and Tobago had to cancel “the greatest show on Earth”. In 2021 we had no Carnival\, but culture can’t be canceled. Featuring music by Freetown Collective\, “Little Moko” follows Adianka’s journey to learn the art of stilt-walking. \nEvangeline \nInspired by Trinidadian folklore and the haunting character of the Douen\, this experimental short film follows a wire figurine named Evangeline—based on the artist’s goddaughter—as she finds herself lost in a mysterious forest. Rooted in wire-bending\, a traditional Trinidadian art form associated with carnival\, the film brings this local legend to life through a distinctly Caribbean lens. With an “if you know\, you know” approach\, the film intentionally leaves much unsaid. The story is meant to be understood immediately by Trinidadians and those who know of the folklore\, while others may have to dig deeper to uncover the story alluded to within this piece. Evangeline finds herself lost in the forest and encounters a Douen.. \nGods of the Universe \nAdvanced beings must train star children to guide humanity to the next stage of evolution before a catastrophic event destroys Earth\, but their methods differ and time is running out. \nSmile \n“Smile” (shot on a One Plus 6 phone) is a haunting and beautifully crafted stop-motion short film that explores the hidden pain people often mask with a smile. Through striking visuals and without the use of dialogue\, the film uses light and shadow to contrast moments of forced joy with the darkness of internal struggle. Each frame is carefully animated to convey emotion\, creating a powerful narrative that speaks directly to the heart. As the story unfolds\, it becomes clear that the character’s smile is not a reflection of happiness\, but a shield—one that slowly fades as unspoken pain consumes from within. The film reminds us that behind even the brightest expressions\, there can be deep suffering.  “Smile” is more than just a visual experience; it’s a quiet call for empathy. It urges us to look deeper\, to listen more\, and to always choose kindness—because everyone is fighting battles that are often invisible to the world. \n🎟️ Tickets available here
